For nearly a quarter century, families from across Connecticut and beyond have made an annual voyage to Milford for one of the region's most beloved family traditions — Milford Pirates Day. Milford, CT - On Sunday, June 7, Downtown Milford will once again be transformed into a bustling pirate village as the event celebrates its 24th year of swashbuckling fun, family memories, and community spirit. What began as a unique family event has grown into a multi-generational tradition. Children who once arrived dressed as pirates, clutching treasure maps and searching for hidden clues throughout downtown, now return with children of their own, sharing the same excitement and wonder they experienced years ago. The highlight of the day remains the dramatic pirate ship landing in Milford Harbor. Around noon, crowds gather along the waterfront as pirates storm ashore amid live cannon fire, creating one of the most anticipated and photographed moments of the event. Throughout the day, Downtown Milford becomes an interactive adventure. Young pirates can participate in treasure hunts that lead them through local businesses, while families enjoy live music, historical storytelling, pirate-themed games, and encounters with colorful pirate characters roaming the streets. Visitors can also enjoy “Pancakes with Pirates,” explore more than 25 vendors on the Milford Green, and experience educational displays and demonstrations presented by the Free Men of the Sea of Mystic, who bring maritime history to life through storytelling and interactive exhibits. Part of what makes Milford Pirates Day so special is its ability to create lasting family memories. Generations of Connecticut families have marked the event on their calendars year after year, making it a tradition that spans decades. Grandparents, parents, and children often attend together, creating a unique sense of community that few events can match. Beyond its local appeal, Pirates Day has become a tourism draw for the region, attracting visitors who come to experience Milford's picturesque harbor, charming downtown, and welcoming atmosphere. The combination of waterfront scenery, costumed families, live entertainment, and historical programming creates a highly visual experience that has become a signature event for the city. As Milford Pirates Day celebrates 24 years of adventure, it continues to prove that some traditions never lose their treasure. Whether you're a longtime attendee returning for another voyage or a first-time visitor ready to join the crew, the event promises a day filled with imagination, laughter, and memories that will last long after the pirates sail away.
