Sip, Savor, and Sing: Acoustic Vibes Take Over SONO 1420 Every Friday!

"Kick Off Your Weekend with Unforgettable Acoustic Sounds at SONO 1420!"

There’s no better way to welcome the weekend than with smooth sounds and a sip of something special. SONO 1420 America’s Maritime Distillery is turning up the volume this April with its Friday Night Acoustic SONO music series—and trust us—you won’t want to miss it!

Every Friday night from 6 to 8 pm, join us at SONO 1420 for an unforgettable evening of live music paired with the rich, warming flavor of award-winning whiskeys and bourbons crafted right here at the distillery. I’m partial to BLAZE Cinnamon Bourbon (❤️), but whatever your go-to drink, it’s the perfect way to ease into your weekend. Whether you're a local music lover or just looking to unwind after a long week, this series is calling your name!

April 4th: Billy Genuario Duo

Kick off the month with the dynamic and soulful sounds of the Billy Genuario Duo. As a Norwalk native and an iconic figure in the SONO music scene, Billy Genuario has built a career paying tribute to some of the greatest singers and bands of all time. His powerful voice and magnetic stage presence make every performance unforgettable. Don’t miss your chance to catch this local legend in action! I know I’ll be getting my “Billy G” fix on April 4—will you?

April 11th: Benny Mikula/The Lone Gnome

Get ready for a night of soul and storytelling as Benny Mikula takes the stage. Known as the frontman of The Alpaca Gnomes and performing solo as Benny Mikula/The Lone Gnome, this New Haven-born singer-songwriter brings a blend of folk, rock, and indie sounds. His heartfelt lyrics and passion-filled performances create an intimate, feel-good vibe that perfectly complements your favorite bourbon.

April 18th: Sal Grillo

On April 18, SONO 1420 welcomes Sal Grillo, a Milford-based singing pianist whose vocal range covers classics from the 1950s to today’s top hits. Whether you’re in the mood for a nostalgic melody or a contemporary favorite, Sal’s versatile talent will keep you captivated all evening long. Don’t miss this chance to experience his smooth vocals and impressive piano skills in an intimate setting.

April 25th: Mike Milazzo

Closing out the month is the raw, evocative sound of Mike Milazzo. A powerhouse of Americana and alternative music, Mike is known for his soulful storytelling and unique blend of wooden and electric instruments. His latest EP, Blood Moon, features five distinct songs with moody undertones, while his full-length album, Love Is a Cage, reflects on his NYC roots, love, heartbreak, and redemption.

Don’t Miss a Single Friday!

Mark your calendars, gather your friends, and head down to SONO 1420 America’s Maritime Distillery every Friday in April. Great music, great drinks, and great company—what more could you ask for?

Brookfield Film Festival: A Small Town with a Big Film Legacy Brookfield, CT - Brookfield, Connecticut may be a small town, but it holds a meaningful place in the regional film community. Located in Fairfield County within the southern foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, Brookfield is bordered by Candlewood Lake and Lake Lillinonah and sits just 43 miles northeast of New York City. With a population of approximately 17,000, the town has become a welcoming hub for independent filmmakers. Now in its 18th year, the Brookfield Film Festival continues to gain momentum inside the historic Brookfield Theatre for the Arts. Sponsored by the all-volunteer Brookfield Arts Commission, the festival not only celebrates independent film, but also supports arts education. Proceeds benefit the Brookfield Arts Commission Arts Scholarship Award, presented annually to a graduating Brookfield high school senior pursuing a degree in the arts. This year’s two-day festival features four curated program blocks. Regional Indie Afternoon showcases films from Connecticut and neighboring states, followed by filmmaker Q&A discussions. Read-Through Indie Morning, presented with the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, gives screenwriters the opportunity to hear their work read aloud and network with actors and filmmakers in a collaborative setting, complete with complimentary coffee and pastries. Shorts and to the Point highlights a handpicked selection of Oscar-nominated and award-winning short films, while Music Indie Evening features original music videos from regional artists and filmmakers. The Brookfield Film Festival takes place March 27 through March 29 at the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, located at 184 Whisconier Road in Brookfield, CT. A $15 suggested donation supports festival programming and scholarships. Light refreshments and festival merchandise will be available throughout the weekend.
