Connecticut: Just in time for spooky season, Connecticut has launched a brand-new way to explore the state’s darker history, legendary ghost stories and mysterious places. Governor Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Office of Statewide Marketing and Tourism announced the Connecticut Haunted History Trail, featuring more than 130 locations statewide connected to haunted landmarks, paranormal lore, colonial witch-trial history and centuries of unexplained stories. 👻 Explore Connecticut’s Haunted Side The trail covers nine categories, including haunted homes, museums and theaters; historic cemeteries; hiking trails; ghost and paranormal tours; restaurants; lighthouses; witch, occult and metaphysical collections; hotels; and sites connected to Connecticut’s colonial witch trials. Visitors can choose their favorite stops and create their own haunted fall road trip. 🧙 Connecticut’s Witch Trials Came Before Salem One of the most fascinating parts of the trail explores Connecticut’s colonial witch-trial history. Connecticut’s witch trials began in 1647 — approximately 45 years before Salem — when Alse (Alice) Young of Windsor became the first person executed for witchcraft in the American colonies. At least 49 people were accused of witchcraft in colonial Connecticut , at least 34 were indicted and at least 11 were executed. In 2023, the Connecticut General Assembly formally acknowledged the injustice committed against those accused and convicted and apologized to their descendants. 🔦 Ghost Stories, Legends & Paranormal Places The Haunted History Trail goes well beyond witch-trial history. Launches Fundraising Campaign to Support Fall Season NORWALK, Conn. The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts announced today that its October production of Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party will move to The SoNo Collection in Norwalk, following the closure of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, which had served as the production's original venue. The Downtown Cabaret Theatre, a beloved fixture of the Bridgeport arts community for more than 50 years, closed its doors this summer after its final production, A Chorus Line, concluded in June. Its closing left the Conservatory searching for a new home for The Wild Party on short notice. “We’re incredibly grateful to The SoNo Collection for stepping up and providing our students a stage to perform on,” said Danny Loftus George, President of The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts. “But this experience has made something very clear: Norwalk needs a dedicated space for the performing arts. A city of our cultural and musical pedigree deserves a world class performing arts center, too.” The Wild Party, set in the roaring 1920s and centered on a night of jazz, ambition, and desire, will now take the stage at The SoNo Collection, opening on October 8 and running through October 18. A Fundraising Campaign for the Fall Performance Season The unexpected venue change also comes with unexpected costs, and the Conservatory has launched a community fundraising campaign to help cover the expense of relocating The Wild Party and to accommodate the rest of its Fall season, including its November production of the Tennessee Williams classic, A Streetcar Named Desire. The Conservatory is inviting community members, alumni, families, and local arts supporters to contribute to the campaign, which will help ensure that both productions go on as planned, and move the school one step closer to securing a permanent performance venue in Norwalk. “Every gift, no matter the size, helps our students continue doing what they were born to do: perform,” added Colin Hosten, Director of Development. “We’re asking our community to rally around us the way they always have.” Donation information can be found at thenorwalkconservatory.org/donate.
