Danbury, CT – The Danbury Library invites the community to join in a vibrant celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, on November 8, 2025 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the library , 170 Main Street. This engaging program will explore the rich culture and traditions surrounding Diwali, a significant festival in Hinduism as well as in Jainism and Sikhism, celebrated by millions around the world. Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The celebrations, which occur between mid-September and mid-November, typically last for five to six days and feature a variety of cultural activities. This year, the Danbury Library will host an array of exciting events, including storytelling sessions that illuminate the significance of Diwali, hands-on craft activities, henna painting, mindfulness practices, demonstrations of dancing, and a delightful exploration of traditional garam masala spices. “The library is thrilled and proud to celebrate as both a joyous festival of light and a chance for the community of Danbury to learn about the rich traditions and stories that illuminate it,” said Douglas Lord, the library's project coordinator. With approximately 6% of Danbury's population, or 5,400 residents, identifying as Asian, the Indian community contributes significantly to the city's cultural tapestry. Past Diwali celebrations at the Danbury Library have garnered praise from attendees, with one participant stating, "The event was a beautiful blend of culture, color, and community - a true reflection of the spirit of Diwali." Everyone is welcome to participate in this family-friendly event, which promises to be both enlightening and enjoyable. Join us at the Danbury Library as we celebrate the Festival of Lights and foster a deeper understanding of this vibrant culture.
