Founded in New Jersey in 1980, The Smithereens have been crafting electrifying, original rock'n'roll for over 41 years. Childhood friends Jim Babjak (guitar), Dennis Diken (drums), and Mike Mesaros (bass) originated from Carteret, while the late lead singer, Pat DiNizio, was from Scotch Plains.
With their "take-no-prisoners" sound reflecting their Garden State roots, The Smithereens have captivated fans worldwide through 17 albums and over 2500 live performances.
Their studio albums include Especially for You, Green Thoughts, 11, A Date with The Smithereens, and 2011. Some of their biggest hits include rock radio staples such as "Blood and Roses," "Only a Memory," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," and "A Girl Like You." Their most recent album, COVERS, showcases 22 of the band's favorite songs originally recorded by other artists. Having released albums under Capitol, RCA, Sony, Koch, and eOne Records, The Smithereens have sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
