The First Awakenings Of Marianna's Pantry
My name is Melissa Cotto and my sister Marina DeCarli and I are pleased to announce that Marianna's Pantry will be opening soon in Trumbull! I have lived in Trumbull for almost 10 years and we are so excited to share our passion for food with this community and beyond. Marina has a culinary degree and has traveled throughout Italy, working alongside the best chefs for dough and pastry recipes that you cannot get anywhere around here. Our menu will offer specialty coffees, breakfast, lunch and take out dinners. All of our meals will be made with fresh, local ingredients- you can even get my Nonna's famous home made sauce to bring home and enjoy with your family.

So let me tell you a little bit about why we named our place Marianna's Pantry.... Our mom, Marianna DeCarli has always showed us how to work hard, be the best version of yourself, and how to love. Her parents migrated here from Frosinone, Italy to raise their family. Our grandmother Gina always made the best dinners and Italian cookies. They lived right next door to us in the north end of Bridgeport so we spent a lot of time there. And our grandfather made his own wine and had a garden the size of a basketball court with all fresh vegetables, fruit trees and fig trees. I have many fond memories of jarring tomato's and picking fruits and tending the garden with my grandfather Amedeo. Our mom married our father, Maurizio in 1978- his family was still in Italy, they were from Rome and my dad came here in his 20's. He also always worked very hard to provide for us. And his mom, our Nonna Lilia was an excellent cook and taught us everything. She came to the US when we were young and were so lucky to grow up with fresh home made meals.

Back to Marianna - after studying nursing and working in the ER at St V's for 45 years, she then moved to the heart clinic. She is still there and not ready to retire- her friends and co- workers call her "Ma". She has such a caring way about her and she has taught us so much about compassion and giving to others. That is why we incorporated the "bee kind" in our logo because we love bee's - they symbolize community and our mom is the kindest person we know. So we hope Marianna's is a community place where people can come and feel like family. We also want Mare (that's Marianna's nickname ) to have a place to come and relax, because anyone who knows her knows she is always on the go- working, watching her grandchildren, and helping people anywhere she could.
