How often are you saying "there's nothing to do". You end up doing the EXACT same thing you always do. Go to the same places you always go. You're back at work on Monday without anything to talk about. Again. Fairfield After Dark has found you a way out of your rut.
If there's anything that's not scarce in Fairfield County it's amazing theater. From small independent theaters like The Ridgefield Theater Barn to large venues supporting national and international acts like The Klein or The Palace Stamford we surely have our pick of amazing entertainment.
At 192 seats, The Bijou Theatre stands out with it's clean, spacious space, it's unique cabaret table and concert seating and it's comfortable lobby and full liquor bar.
New owner Gary Peterson has a nostalgic soft spot and has peppered the space with some unique pieces of "art" such as an original jukebox in the concession lobby to an old 8-track stereo (which he tells me actually works) and a very 50's era tube television both flanking the bar in the lobby.
Upon taking over the theater, Gary upgraded the sound system to really highlight all kinds of entertainment. A plain white movie screen was the only backdrop to the entertainment so he changed that too. A black velvet curtain with pinholes of light like stars now shine behind the stage.
There are two small rooms on the mezzanine level that are perfect for renting out for private parties & events. The "Mezzanine Suite" holds some basic tables and chairs and the "VIP Suite" is upgraded with some more cushy seating. The view from both of these rooms is phenomenal.
Entertainment at The Bijou runs the gambit from stand-up comedy and improv to live music and concerts. The space is sometimes rented out by 3rd parties for things such as dance school recitals and local theater groups to put on plays and musicals.
Bridgeport is an ever-changing city and the downtown space has yet to find it's true voice. It's places like The Bijou Theatre that help to transform a downtown. There are some great dining options within steps of The Bijou such as Milano's Wine & Pizzeria and a new pho and ramen bar Eat Noodle that make this a perfect night out.

I've been running Fairfield After Dark for over eight years now. As such, I've become a bit of a nightlife guru for Fairfield County. I am constantly asked questions about the area's best bands, places for girl's night out, great places to see live music, places to go if your single - you name it.
So what can you expect in my new blog? I will be highlighting unique things about the places you know, finding you the hidden gems you may have missed, and talking about the people behind them.
Occasionally I will have some guest bloggers as well whose expertise in all things food, fashion and fun can provide a unique perspective from my own.
The bottom line is... who knows? The ideas are endless and I just can't wait to get started!
