The Town Players of New Canaan have been performing continuously for over 60 years. The Town Players had their initial meeting on December 13, 1946. At that time New Canaan was a closely knit small town of 5,500 people. Merchants, commercial enterprises and residents gave the Town Players generous support with opening nights often given front-page coverage by The Advertiser whose support the Town Players has enjoyed and been grateful for ever since.
In the early 1980's the Town Players renovated the power plant and called it The Powerhouse.
